Soon we hope to have more information about our mission, our goals and what we've been doing. But for now, please read our first newsletter which will share that information! We've been awfully busy getting things started, so please bear with the construction of our website!

Newsletter Issue 1
Welcome to the inaugural newsletter for LIFE Animal Haven. LIFE is a new animal rescue group based in the Granville County, North Carolina area. Though we hope our reach extends far beyond our own backyards, you have to start somewhere.
The Mission of LIFE is to reduce companion animal suffering by
1)
Encouraging Spay/Neuter of all owned pets and shelter animals
by supporting Low Cost Spay & Neuter programs and Education of the
public
2) Fostering and adoption of previously stray or abandoned animals
3) Community education and outreach programs promoting responsible pet ownership
To keep you up to date with LIFE’s accomplishments, each newsletter will outline short term Goals and brag about those we have reached!
Goals
for the rest of 2001:
Paperwork is already underway to become an official Nonprofit organization in North Carolina. We have filed for a Federal Tax Identification Number and are in the process of completing Articles of Incorporation. Once these are completed and accepted, we can file for Nonprofit status with the state.
Our most important goal is to create a strong network of members and volunteers. No rescue organization can survive without support! Thank you to those who have already lent their skills and advice to the formation of LIFE Animal Haven.
There are many other state and nationwide rescue groups. We hope to network with as many other groups as possible in order to help as many animals as possible. We have already had great interactions with North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue (See Sasha’s story), Doberman Rescue of NC, SNAP-NC, and Operation Catnip.

Our overall vision is to create an Animal Haven that can house companion pets for rehabilitation and adoption, a Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic and a Veterinary Clinic. Big dreams take lots of work, but we know we can do it. While this dream is years from actuality, the vision can support us in our daily efforts !
As we become more established, we will file for Federal 501c3 tax exempt status. At the moment this is too expensive and time consuming to pursue, however as we grow, we will plan to apply for Tax exemption.
Sasha was a 5 year old female Rottweiler at the Granville County Shelter. She was not spayed and possibly pregnant. Sasha had also been deemed dog aggressive because of behaviors she exhibited at the shelter. Animal Control Chief, Elma Rae Greene, put out a call for help for Sasha or she was going to be euthanized due to space restrictions at the small, rural shelter. LIFE founder, Rebecca Meyers sent the word to as many rescue groups and Rottweiler organizations as possible looking for help for Sasha.
Diane Sacripanti with North Carolina Rottwieler Rescue (NCRR) came through saying she could take her. But due to a family tragedy Diane would be out of state for several weeks. That didn’t help the shelter that desperately needed the cage space. So Sasha came home with Rebecca for the interim. First order of business was having her spayed and vaccinated by SNAP-NC. After a time in quarantine, she became one of a pack of 8 dogs in the yard and showed no dog aggression. (Keep in mind Rebecca only owns 2 of those!) She became the baby of the yard and everyone (human and animals) loved her. Sasha went to NCRR on July 17 and will be treated for Heartworms then put up for adoption. We’re just waiting for that final Happy Ending when she finds her forever home!
We are working with NCRR again to rescue an adult male Rottie from the Granville County shelter as of this newsletter!
Darcy was a Doberman with a similar story. This adult male was a stray picked up by animal control. When he was unclaimed, he came to stay with Rebecca until Doberman Rescue of North Carolina could take him. Now he’s in a great foster home with DRNC until he’s adopted!
Just two stories to show how groups working together can help each other and the animals out!
Because there are so many purebred rescue groups out there, LIFE tries to contact them about any purebreds needing rescue. Then our foster homes can take in the other animals needing help
Pets
For Adoption:
Blackie (male) & Brownie (female) 7 month old neutered spaniel mixes
Blackie
and Brownie were both surrendered by their owners because they could not care
for them. They were very shy as
they had never been out of a small chainlink pen until coming to their foster
home. They are now making great
progess!
KITTENS! 4 adorable neutered male 16 weeks old, 3 black, 1 orange tabby, all shorthair. Vaccinated and ready to go.
.LIFE does not accept owner surrendered animals unless the other animals in the household are neutered, including parents of litters of puppies or kittens. If necessary we may be able to offer some assistance with the neutering or refer the owners to a low-cost program.
At the moment, LIFE only has foster homes for a couple of pets at a time, though we hope to expand and have more foster homes for dogs and cats soon!
Thank
you
Thank you to Leslie who is working on creating a logo for LIFE Animal Haven, and to Landis who does anything & everything asked. The biggest Thanks goes to Bradley for supporting the start up of LIFE Animal Haven. And thanks to everyone else who’s offered encouragement!
